Q: What is Progressive New Thought and Practical Christianity?
A: New Thought is a spiritual philosophy that is uniquely American, founded in the early 19th century, as a liberal spiritual approach to the metaphysical existentialist movement of the day. Practical Christianity is a term used to describe a unique branch of New Thought faith. Progressive New Though is a term used to describe a unique stream of Christian teaching. Our's is a philosophy and way of life which promotes positive thinking, joyful living, personal empowerment, radiant health, prosperity ideals and profound peace of mind consistent with the teachings of Christ Jesus.

Q: Do you believe in Jesus Christ?
A: Yes, we believe Jesus is both Divine and the Son of God. Jesus is the perfect expression of the Christ Presence. Every person has the potential to express this perfection as Jesus did, by being more Christ-like in word, thought and deed. We refer to Jesus as the Way-Shower because He shows us the way to a perfect, positive and dynamic life.

Q: Is Angelus a Christian Church?
A: Yes, however, people of many different faiths worship, study and fellowship with us. We are interfaith and non-denominational. We are a congregational member of The Interfaith Alliance, a national organization promoting interfaith and transfaith understanding.

Q: What do you teach regarding sin, heaven and hell?
A: We believe that to sin is to make a mistake or error in our relationship with God. We do not believe God judges or punishes anyone. God is love and never abandons His children. We are punished by the consequence of our mistakes or errors not because of them. Heaven and Hell are states of consciousness not physical places.

Q: Do you believe in life after death?
A: Absolutely, we believe life is eternal just as we teach we are eternal spiritual beings. We are Universalists and believe in the ultimate salvation of everyone of every faith and even those with no faith. God never closes the door to eternal life for any of His children. What takes place after this physical life is a blissful union with God our Creator and progression in a place of growth, tranquility and peace. Life does not end but it is changed. As Univeralists we believe everyone is united with the Creator after this life. No one is ever lost or separated for eternity. This would be totally inconsistent with our understanding and belief in a God of Love. We will all be welcomed by God into eternal life -- no exceptions! No mistake is too great to be forgiven by God.

Q: What do you believe about the Bible?
A: We believe the Bible is a textbook for a successful and happy life. We do not take every statement literally and realize that there are many dimensions of understanding within it. The Bible is our sacred text but it was written and has been translated by human beings. This does not detract from its beauty, value or divine message.

Q: Do you celebrate any ritual or sacraments?
A: Our church has limited rituals. We follow an order of service for Sunday worship similar to many Protestant churches. We celebrate the ceremonies of baptism, communion, marriage and burial (or memorial remembrance of the dead).

Q: What do you teach regarding healing?
A: Most New Thought Practical Christian churches believe in scientific spiritual healing. This is accomplished through the use of prayer, laying-on-of-hands and affirmation. These are often called "prayer treatments." We do not discourage the use of medical science but see all healing as spiritual. Physicians and medicine perform a function as does the spritiual healing practitioner but God, as the Great Physician, affects the healing. Healing is an internal spiritual reality and our ultimate healing will be when we step forth into eternal life with God.
